These furnitures that I designed were built with help of Ikkyun Shin by support of Gallery Factory. These are the interface for every occasions of collaboration and conversation.

Process video of designing the furnitures. At somepoint in my practice, I realized the importance of furniture for collaboration to happen. I’ve been observing the spaces and furniture which enable fruitful collaboration. The design is a distillation of such places and objects.

One of the most memorable event was when Jie-Eun Hwang, a friend of Gallery Factory and professor of architecture, gifted one of the tables to her students who are starting out their office. Through a series of conversations and email exchanges, the piece was transported to Ctr. T’s new office. It’s currently being used as part of their space. I believe this exchange of objects (furnitures I observed - design of new furniture for the exhibition - fabrication by Ikkyun - use of the furnitures in Your friend exhibition and also pop up restaurant by Ara Ahn - and continued use of the furniture at Ctrl. T’s office) is remarkable. I’m happy about the life of an art objects that can be function and enable new conversation to take place. I’m thankful to Gallery Factory and also Jieun for gifting the piece to new place.

It would be great to hear if the table actually allow for collaboration. It’s definitely bearing distinct characteristics. The leg sticks out of the table, possibly tripping people and acknowledging its presence. What would a collaborator be, if we don’t know each other’s place in the space?
